About Me
Betsy Golem is licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine. She earned her Diploma of Acupuncture from the Maryland Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate of Chinese Herbs from the Tai Sophia Institute. She is nationally board certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as a Diplomate in Acupuncture. Certification in Herbal and Oriental Medicine is pending. She has been practicing Acupuncture and Oriental medicine for 20 years, since 1999.
It was in 1996 Betsy realized she was never going to be a famous opera singer. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal music from the University of Maryland, having a love of music, but not finding continuing satisfaction in her music related job at that time, she decided it was time to make a change. Since she followed a path of meditation, and was a vegetarian, her resulting interest in health and natural healing led her to look for a career path more in line with her philosophical feelings.
At that time she was experiencing migraine type headaches, so decided to try Acupuncture to see if it would help. 10 treatments later, she had no more headaches. The ensuing years were ones of internal discovery to match the external way of viewing the body and the world she was learning. With each year she practices, she is continually amazed, and excited by the capacity of the body to heal itself. The learning never ends, and each patient is a new teacher carrying her farther along the path.
